The winners in each of the categories at the Energize Awards 2016 were :

Coach of the Year

This award recognises the achievements of a paid or unpaid coach who has made a significant impact on those they have coached and is committed to providing more opportunities for people to start, stay and succeed in sport.

The winner is :

Volunteer of the Year

This award recognises those who give up their time for free and by doing so make participating in sport possible in their club. This category aims to recognise the wide variety of roles that volunteers perform, from club secretaries and treasurers to grounds keepers and fundraisers.

The winner is:

Young Volunteer of the Year

This award recognises a young person who gives up their free time to encourage others to take part in sport. They will be a positive role model for other young people and be committed to their own personal development.

The winner is:

Sports Performance of the Year - Sponsored by Telford College of Arts and Technology

This award recognises a person or team (able bodied or disabled) who has excelled in their sport and is a positive role model to others.

This award recognises a young person or team (able bodied or disabled) who has excelled in their sport and is a positive role model to others.

Active Primary School - NEW

This award recognises a primary school in Shropshire or Telford & Wrekin which successfully creates an active culture for its students in order that they leave school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. The active culture will go beyond pupils, to include staff and even the extended school community.

The winner is:

Active Secondary School - NEW - Sponsored by Barclays PLC

This award recognises a secondary school in Shropshire or Telford & Wrekin which successfully creates an active culture for its students in order that they leave school with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. The active culture will go beyond pupils, to include staff and even the extended school community.

Community Club of the Year - Sponsored by Shropshire Community Leisure Trust

This award recognises a community sports club that provides a high quality sports environment for its members. The club will have achieved this through supporting coaches and volunteers and developing the infrastructure of the club in order to benefit members.

Community Project of the Year – Sponsored by Pleydell Smithyman Ltd.

This award recognises an innovative project which uses sport and physical activity to improve and enhance the quality of life of the people in Shropshire and / or Telford & Wrekin’s communities. Examples of projects could include Sportivate projects or Community Games events.

Employer of the Year

This award recognises a local employer that actively encourages and enables their workforce to be more physically active and lead a healthier lifestyle. They may also support community sport, for example by sponsoring a local club or encouraging their workforce to volunteer in sport environments.

Power of Sport – Supported by BBC Radio Shropshire

This award recognises the achievements of an individual in their first 18 months of participating in their chosen sport, activity or role. The individual should have made an outstanding and inspirational contribution, above and beyond that normally expected for someone in their first 18 months.

The William Penny Brookes Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to Sport and Physical Activity - Supported by Wenlock Olympian Society

This special award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to sport and physical activity in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin over a number of years.
